A Tanzanian pharmacy student, Jackline Malavanu, has made history by becoming the winner of the Africa’s Campus Battle Award-Season 6. The 22-year-old, affectionately known as “Jackie Melvis,” clinched the coveted title and a cash prize of $2,000 after impressing judges with her performance tied to the Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
Malavanu, a third-year student at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) balances her academic pursuits with her passion for marketing. Her participation in the Africa's Campus Battle competition showcased her exceptional talent and dedication to making a positive impact.
The competition, which traversed universities across Africa, aimed to identify and nurture untapped talent among students.
By mobilizing young people, Africa’s Campus Battle sought to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovative solutions.
The grand finale event in Nairobi brought together university students from across the continent to compete for the top prize. The competition was themed around the SDGs, providing a platform for students to showcase their artistic abilities and contribute to a sustainable future.
In addition to the cash prize, Malavanu’s victory means that she has earned a fully paid trip to London and the Anthony Athaide Trophy for her university.
